FINDING MY PLACE IN THE WORLD
Raised in a multicultural family with German-Mexican roots and shaped by a life across continents, I bring a global perspective and a deep appreciation for the shared humanity that connects us all. Growing up constantly adapting to new cultures and environments, I developed a capacity for meeting others with curiosity and for re-inventing myself. This ignited my passion for storytelling and my love for exploring the human condition.
In my early twenties, I returned to my birthplace, Berlin, to become a filmmaker and co-founded FilmArche e.V., Europe’s first self-governed film school, where I gained a deep understanding of co-creation, community, and empowered collective action. After earning a Master’s in Filmmaking in London, later followed by a degree in Digital Management, I built a decade-long career as an award-winning Creative Producer and Director, working at the forefront of technology and impact storytelling. Today I live with my partner and our patchwork family of three teenagers in Berlin, finding joy and growth in the beautiful chaos of our shared life.
THE PATH OF BECOMING IS A PATH OF TRANSFORMATION
Life’s challenges have shaped me in profound ways. My parents’ separation during my childhood left us oceans apart, creating a sense of loss that resurfaced when I lost my father at 27. Later, the end of my 13-year marriage brought another period of deep change as I navigated single motherhood while rediscovering myself. What grounded me through these transitions—and gave me a broader perspective on life—was my spiritual path. Born into a family of spiritual seekers, I grew up immersed in mindfulness and meditation practices, learning from Tibetan masters such as Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche. This foundation gave me a deep sense of connection to both the seen and unseen, as well as compassion for our shared human experience.
My spiritual journey eventually led me to my shamanic teacher, Fiona Shaw, and the Red Path, a path of indigenous wisdom that recognizes the interconnectedness and sacredness of all life. Over the past decade, this path has been my spiritual home. As part of this tradition, I have undertaken two years of Vision Quest, an integral practice of this path, which has deepened my commitment to serving life and humbly bowing to the mystery of it all.
A lifelong curiosity about what it means to live authentically has also guided my exploration of embodiment practices. I began practicing yoga at 13 and later trained as a Fluentbody Teacher, further embracing the transformative power of movement and somatic awareness. After my divorce, I delved into conscious sexuality, authentic relating, and non-monogamy, balancing these explorations with the demands of single motherhood. It was during this time that I found profound healing through the women’s work introduced by my shamanic teacher. The sisterhood I encountered within this space has been a powerful source of strength and inspiration, reinforcing my belief in the transformative potential of women coming together consciously to heal and flourish.
BIRTHING SABIA AND THE WISE WOMAN WITHIN
Propelled by my own experiences and my early onset of perimenopause, I founded SABIA to empower women to reconnect with their innate wisdom and explore what it means to live authentically in today’s world. SABIA’s journey has not been a linear one; much like the snake that sheds its skin—SABIA’s Spirit Animal—the process of bringing this work into being has required me to confront my fears, grief, and illusions of control. And it led me to become a Transformation Facilitator. Through this journey of birthing and becoming I have emerged strengthened in my ability to hold the space of not-knowing, to dance on the edge, and to fully trust in and surrender to the unfolding of life. And through it all I have learned to listen to the whisper of the Wise Woman rising within me.
I am honored to have you find your way to these words. I look forward to learning your story and accompanying you on your own journey. May we walk in beauty.
To all of our relations.
With Love,
Maya
